 MWAMKO MPYA SHANZU COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIzATION 

CONSUMER PROTECTION PUBLIC PARTICIPATION FORUM BY KECOPAC AND MINISTRY OF TRADE
On 18th November 2025, members of Shanzu Mwamko Mpya Community-Based Organization (CBO) took part in a key public participation forum on consumer protection organized by the Kenya Consumer Protection Advisory Committee (KECOPAC) in partnership with the Ministry of Trade. The highly engaging event was hosted at Heritage Hotels – Voyager, Mombasa.
This forum was part of KECOPAC’s nationwide initiative to strengthen consumer rights in Kenya, enhance market transparency, and ensure that citizens have a direct voice in policy formulation. The event brought together stakeholders from across the Coast region, including community groups, civil society organizations, business representatives, and local leaders.
For Shanzu Mwamko Mpya CBO, the event offered a strategic platform to highlight community concerns on issues such as pricing regulations, product safety, fair trade practices, and consumer education.

The CBO members emphasized the need for more inclusive participation of grassroots communities in shaping national policies under the Ministry of Trade.

The discussions focused on:

1. Strengthening consumer protection frameworks in Kenya

2. Enhancing accountability and fairness in local and national markets

3. Improving awareness of consumer rights and complaint mechanisms

4. Building partnerships between community organizations and government agencies

Participation in this forum aligns with the CBO’s mission to promote community empowerment, good governance, and responsible trade practices in the Shanzu area and beyond. By engaging directly in national dialogue, Shanzu Mwamko Mpya CBO continues to represent the interests of residents and advocate for policies that protect consumers and support sustainable local development.
